OutPost is the sixteenth episode of the Record of Grancrest War anime series.

Summary

Milza's army invades the Forest of Eternal Darkness, they're first ambushed by the werewolf tribe, and then poisoned by the witches from the white witch village. A sympathizer of Lord Villar and his army charge at Milza's army until once Milza himself appears. The lord then orders his men to retreat and sacrifices himself to allow his men to retreat. Milza's forces then regroup and press onward deeper into the forest. They're impeded, however, due to the forest constantly blocking off the way passageways. This is in order to toy and balkanize the army. Nevertheless, they continue toward the castle.

Finally reaching the castle, Milza demands a duel with Theo. He, however, declines to duel with Milza and warns that if he and his men don't leave the forest by nightfall they'll be trapped in the bloodthirsty forest. Milza agrees to leave the forest, but openly declares that he'll conquer the rest of Altirk while he's holed up in his castle. Although the victory was theirs, it's noted that the next battle will be grueling.

That night in Unicorn Castle, Telius informs Milza of the likely plans. The first is to return to Bulltava and the second is attack the Unicorn Castle. On the latter notion, Milza proclaims he'll obliterate Theo's forces. Telius proposes they send troops to the south in order to attack the Treaty Forces and draw Theo out of hiding. Impressed by this plan, Milza has Telius proceed with the necessary preparations. News of the invasion reaches Theo who is informed of it by Siluca. In light of this news, Siluca suggests they make a move against Milza with a volunteer army made up of citizens of Altirk. Taking advantage of Milza's departure from the castle to attack the south, Siluca enlists the help from Moreno, Laura, and Ellet.

Marching to their destination, Milza is informed that the Lord of Regalia Selge has fled and left his mage behind. Telius has suspicions of this, however, Milza takes this as fortuitous news. As they head back to the castle, Milza and his army see that Theo's army with allies is heading toward Castle Unicorn. Although Milza wants to take Theo's army head-on, Telius admonishes the thought as currently, their forces number 5,000 while Theo's numbers 50,000. He advises that they need to get reinforcements from Waldlind, Starck, and Dartania. On one hand, Milza doesn't want to have his pride tarnished as he'd be showing weakness for retreating back to the castle. On the other hand, he still agrees with Telius' suggestion wanting to trust his mage.

At Waldlind, Marrine is informed of the siege of Castle Unicorn by Aubest. In response to this Marrine sends 3,000 soldiers to his aid and Ulrika denies giving any help as she wants to finish off Hammon. Meanwhile, Edokia laments over now being penniless and having no more supplies. So in one final attempt to raise the morale of her army and subjects, she and her mage Laura make a declaration in the nude. This inspires Edoka's army to confront the Nord forces in the nude. The exhibitionist act was accentuating the fact that they've given everything to the Nords and will now fight with what they have. Edokia also inspires the Starck forces to start an uprising which is helped by Juzel acting as an interloper. Not wanting to give in, Ulrika still wants to continue with the attack, but is then informed by her mage that an uprising has started in Starck. Against Ulrika's will, the Nord forces retreat.

Meanwhile back in the Unicorn Castle, Theo's forces have already started to build a stronghold against Milza's forces. And not only that, reinforcements from Dartania or Ulrika have not been heard from yet. Therefore, as vexing as it may be to Milza, he doesn't want to succumb to defeat for the first time against Theo.
